The future of food
banking discussed
at the FEBA Annual Convention

This year we will gather food bankers from across Europe to discuss ways to strengthen the positions of our network and movement with regards to the future and sustainability. We want to explore the components of our success and where we identify room for improvement. Join us in Prague! We need your ideas!

This year’s theme is Building Sustainable Futures.

What is the concrete impact of Food Banks on society and the environment? We want to build a bridge between the Present and the Future. As FEBA we observe that a well-functioning and developed Food Bank can be a game changer in the sustainability of a country. Our network consists of 30 countries.

We therefore speak about multiple futures in the plural sense, as each FEBA Member’s future is a puzzle piece in the bigger picture of European food banking.

The future of food
banking discussed on
FEBA Annual Convention

We gather foodbankers from across Europe to discuss the ways to strengthen the positions of our network and movement. We will see what the components of our success are and what are the fields for improvement. Join us in Prague! We need your ideas!

This year’s theme is Building Sustainable Futures.

It is about the current impact of the foodbanking on societies. Also, it is making the bridge between the Present and the Future. As FEBA we see that a developed od bank system is a game changer in the sustainability of the country. Our network consists of 30 countries.

This is the reason why we speak about the future in the plural, as each Member’s future is a puzzle of the big picture of European foodbanking.

Day 3

The Czech Food Bank and 30 year anniversary

The Food Banks in the Czech Republic are non-profit organisations that collect surplus food from various sources such as supermarkets (60%), producers, and farmers, and distribute it to those in need, including low-income families, homeless individuals, and social service agencies. They operate in 15 regional Food Banks across the Czech Republic and a Logistic Centre for larger donations managed by the Czech Federation of Food Banks.

These Food Banks play a crucial role in reducing food waste and alleviating hunger by providing nutritious meals to vulnerable populations across the country. Over 30 years, they’ve grown more organised, thanks to support from retail, partners and government. This anniversary marks their dedication to provide food and highlights the ongoing need to address food insecurity.

In 2023, they rescued 13 200 tons of food and redistributed it to more than 400 000 people in need. They cooperate on a daily basis with 1 381 social partners and run 163 distribution points across the Czech Republic.

Host city - Prague

Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is home to 1.3 million inhabitants and hosts two regional Food Banks: the Food Bank of Prague, which serves the city and the North-Eastern areas, and the Central Bohemian Region Food Bank, which operates within Prague and its surrounding regions. Additionally, the Central Food Bank serves the South-Western region of Prague. These regional Food Banks are part of the largest Czech Food Bank network.
